Our Beginnings
The Wyoming Senior Women’s Golf Association (WSWGA) was founded in 1967 by Edith Knisely of Douglas, Wyoming. With a vision to bring together senior women golfers from across the state, she established a community built on camaraderie, competition, and love for the game. Thirty-one women became the first charter members, and that same year the inaugural tournament was played at the Douglas Golf Course — beginning a tradition that has endured for more than five decades.
Our Purpose
Since its founding, the WSWGA has remained committed to:
Promoting the game of golf among senior women in Wyoming.
Fostering lifelong friendships through shared experiences on and off the course.
Organizing an annual statewide tournament, hosted at rotating golf courses across Wyoming.
Recognizing the accomplishments of all tournament winners.
Giving back to Wyoming communities by donating tournament proceeds to a local charity chosen by the host city.
A Tradition of Fellowship
The annual WSWGA tournament is unique in that flights are determined by age rather than handicap, allowing women to compete among their peers in a welcoming and encouraging environment. Beyond competition, the tournament provides an opportunity to enjoy new courses, travel throughout Wyoming, and build lasting bonds with fellow golfers.
Our Legacy Today
What began with 31 charter members has grown to an average annual membership of over 140 women. Each year, we carry forward the same spirit of friendship, respect, and generosity that inspired our founding. The WSWGA is more than a tournament — it is a community of women who share a love for golf, tradition, and giving back.
